Afrikaners,Is it safe living in South Africa?

I'm not sure what to make of South Africa, i hear some stories that there is lots of crime and discrimination towards white people and then other people say that its lovely, so this question is to the Afrikaners , do you feel safe there and is there still white areas and safe areas where you dont have to have electric fencing around your house and drive past traffic lights, and is it difficult for white people to find work, what areas are white and are safe, im thinking of going over when i finish school, my uncle has been and wants to retire there and then i had relations there but they moved to Australia because they didnt feel safe.
