Is my boyfriend lying about where he's been? ?

Is My boyfriend lying? My boyfriend lives 40 minutes away. A couple weeks ago he just stopped replying to my txts and wouldnt talk to ne for like 6 days. when I was on skype he messages me and started apologizing saying tht his phone broke and he had no way to contact me.. blah blah blah. then it happened again 2 weeks later for 3 days and he said there was a storm knocked out his power. now this is the third time. I just heard from him for the first tine in 5 days, he claimed to have been in the hospital with a major concussion from wen he fell down the steps. he seems sincere wen he apologizes. but I don't know what to believe. is he lying to me???
