Why is witchcraft and sorcery evil but biblical miracles something to hold in wonder?

Because witchcraft is based on paganism, and the church didn't like the masses not following them. Thus paganism was vilified, spun to be a tool of the devil, and evil witches with hook noses and funky hats were born.
